Maskne Treatment Products & Tips

Maskne Treatment, Product & Tips As the Covid-19 pandemic rages on, masks have become a part and parcel of life. While masks help to prevent getting infected by the Coronavirus, they also cause what is commonly referred to as “maskne” or acne due to wearing masks. Learn about maskne treatments, products and tips.

What is maskne?

It happens when sweat, skin oils, and bacteria get trapped on the skin surface while wearing the mask. Face masks lead to irritation as they rub against the skin, which damages the skin’s protective barrier, or trap moisture that causes acne. The situation worsens if you live in a place with warm, humid weather during the summer as sweat, sebum, and moisture from breathing under the mask can clog pores. In winter too, the mask rubs against dry skin, so hair follicles break open and lets the acne-causing bacteria into the skin.

Maskne – tips to prevent and treat if it occurs!

Wash your face regularly

It is very important to wash your face twice a day, especially before wearing a mask and after taking it off. Use a gentle cleanser like the Rose Bellini to remove all impurities from the skin and leave it refreshed. Steer clear from harsh products, toners or exfoliators that cause more inflammation and acne.

Avoid makeup as much as possible

Let your skin breathe. Putting on too much makeup under the mask, such as foundation, concealer, etc. can lead to build-up on the skin, which causes irritation and breakouts.

Use serums and face mists

When it comes to maskne treatment products, you have to ensure you are using the right ones suitable for your skin. Try the Glow in The Dark Serum. It contains hyaluronic acid that replenishes moisture and has anti-aging properties at the same time. Your skin gets proper nourishment too. For additional hydration, you can use the Rose Hydrating Face Mist. There are numerous maskne products to effectively treat skin problems.

Wear the right mask and take good care of it

Ideally, you should wear a soft, cotton mask to reduce irritation and rubbing. If you exercise with a mask, make sure it is clean and dry, as there is bound to be sweating and friction. Remove the mask and wash your face immediately after working out. Regardless, your mask should be washed daily in warm water to remove acne-causing bacteria and oils. If you wear disposable masks, replace as often as you can to prevent accumulation of oil and sweat, and allow it to air out between uses.

Spot treatment can work

Mask-related pimples can be vanquished with spot treatments that contain salicyclic acid or benzoyl peroxide. A product like this usually helps resolve situational acne a day or two faster than leaving irritations to heal on their own.

Maskne treatment doesn’t involve trying to pop a pimple – please don’t do that as it can lead to infection and even scarring. Pay attention to how your skin reacts to wearing a mask. If you feel like moisture is building up underneath, or the skin feels tender or irritated, step away, remove the mask, cleanse any moisture, and let the skin breathe for few minutes.
